News Release | Lake Highlands Cheers on Participants at Family-Friendly GenFit Event Benefiting Educational First Steps

DALLAS, TX, May 9th, 2023 – The Lake Highlands community came together in the name of health, fitness, and early childhood education this past Saturday for the GenFit Challenge, powered by Coach Jae Coston and ForeverAthlete. The family-focused relay event featured 26 teams of parent-child duos racing through various exercises for the title of GenFit Challenge Champion!

During the race, parents completed a half-mile run, burpees, lunges, and a two-minute plank. Kids were challenged with a bear crawl, bunny hops, and a cone stack race, with the event culminating with each team completing a final half-mile run together. The event also hosted local DJ Diamond “K” and Lubellas Patisserie to keep energy and excitement high throughout the morning.

All proceeds for the GenFit Challenge benefited Educational First Steps (EFS), a local nonprofit that creates and supports high-quality early learning environments that ignite the minds of children from birth to age five.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Jae and Forever Athlete create such a fun event to benefit Educational First Steps,” said Vickie Allen-Brown, President & CEO of Educational First Steps. “At EFS, we strive for excellence in all aspects of early childhood education. Teaching healthy physical habits helps build a foundation for excellence in and out of the classroom.”

When asked about the event, Coach Jae shared, “Collaborating with Educational First Steps to create the Lake Highlands GenFit Challenge was an incredibly exhilarating experience. Witnessing the impact of this initiative in empowering Dallas communities to prioritize their health and wellness, while bringing awareness to the amazing work EFS is doing was truly inspiring.”
