Collaborating to Ensure Equity in Education

Kym Shaw Day, Educational First Steps’ director of community partnerships, was elected this spring as chair of the Early Learning Alliance (ELA). This is great news in the effort of ensuring all children have access to quality care and early learning.

ELA is a strategic alliance of more than 50 organizations and individuals across Tarrant County who are addressing complex issues in early learning and impacting the lives of children from birth to age eight.  

In her dual roles, Mrs. Day has collaborative input with community stakeholders to develop the vision and goals to build a local early childhood system that enables every child to be kindergarten ready.

During her leadership term, ELA will contract with a racial equity expert to provide technical assistance and training to ELA members and partner organizations to incorporate actionable strategies for working with children and families of color to alleviate racial disparities and ensure equity in child well-being.
